Haitian Foreign Minister Dominique Dupuy Announces Sweeping Changes in Diplomatic Corps

In a landmark announcement, Haitian Foreign Minister Dominique Dupuy revealed significant changes to the nation's diplomatic landscape, marking a pivotal shift towards greater gender inclusivity and organizational efficiency. This development comes on the heels of a government retreat last weekend, where Prime Minister Garry Conille issued directives aimed at reforming the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to better align with the country's strategic goals.

Minister Dupuy announced the recall of several diplomats, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive evaluation of profiles and performances within the diplomatic staff. This move is part of a broader strategy to ensure that Haiti's diplomatic missions are staffed with highly qualified and effective personnel. "Following the evaluation of the profiles and performances of diplomatic staff, and with the approval of the Prime Minister, I initiated recall procedures in several missions," Dupuy stated.

In a historic move for Haitian diplomacy, the interim leadership of more than 50% of the recalled missions will be assigned to women. This decision underscores a commitment to gender equality and empowerment within the ministry. "Priority will be given to women with a view to their replacement," Dupuy announced, highlighting a significant shift towards female representation in high-level diplomatic positions.

Further reinforcing this commitment, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' human resources department announced in a note dated June 24th that 33 women within the ministry will be promoted to higher posts.
