Port-au-Prince, June 21, 2024 — This Friday, Prime Minister Garry Conille officially presented Normil Rameau as the new Director General ad interim of the Haitian National Police (PNH). In a ceremony attended by key national and international figures, Rameau took on his new role with a firm commitment to combat the escalating gang violence in Haiti.

Normil Rameau, who has previously served with distinction within the PNH, assumes leadership at a critical juncture. Upon taking office, Rameau emphasized his determination to address the rampant gang activity that has plagued the nation. "The bandits must be arrested to allow the population to go about their business," Rameau declared, signaling a zero-tolerance approach to crime.

The installation ceremony was marked by the presence of influential diplomatic figures, underscoring the international community's vested interest in Haiti's stability and security.

American Ambassador Hankins extended his gratitude to the outgoing Director, Frantz Elbé, for his service and reaffirmed the United States' commitment to supporting the PNH under Rameau's leadership. "We look forward to working closely with Director Rameau and continuing our unwavering support to the Haitian National Police," Hankins stated.

French Ambassador Fabrice Mauries also attended the ceremony, reinforcing France's dedication to its cooperative efforts with the PNH. "We honor Frantz Elbé for his contributions and congratulate Normil Rameau on his new role. France will continue to collaborate with the National Police to enhance security and public order in Haiti," Mauries affirmed.

As the PNH enters this new phase, the eyes of both the Haitian public and the international community will be on Rameau and his team, hopeful that his tenure will mark a significant improvement in public safety and a reduction in the influence of gangs across the nation.
