Port-au-Prince, June 9, 2024 – Prime Minister Garry Conille was hospitalized Saturday afternoon following a severe asthma attack, according to sources. The incident occurred while the Prime Minister was touring the Toussaint Louverture International Airport. He was accompanied by Presidential Council member Louis Gerald Gilles and chief of police Frantz Elbe at the time.

The sudden health scare prompted immediate medical attention, and Prime Minister Conille was swiftly taken to a nearby hospital. Frantz Duval, the Editor in Chief of the Haitian daily newspaper Le Nouvelliste, reassured the public via his X account, stating that the Prime Minister is doing better and his condition has stabilized. "He is resting with his wife at his bedside and there is currently no question of medical evacuation abroad," Duval added, dispelling any rumors about the need for treatment outside of Haiti.

In addition to Duval’s update, Transitional Presidential Council's President Edgard Leblanc also took to social media to inform the nation of the Prime Minister’s condition. "I visited Prime Minister Conille today. His doctors informed me that he is in stable condition," Leblanc tweeted, emphasizing that the Prime Minister is receiving excellent care.

Prime Minister Conille’s health has been a topic of concern given his demanding role and the challenges facing Haiti. His hospitalization highlights the need for awareness about asthma and its potential severity, even for those in the highest offices. The Prime Minister’s office issued a statement saying Mr. Conille is doing well.

The Prime Minister's tour of the airport was part of his efforts to oversee and improve the infrastructure and operations of Haiti's main international gateway. The presence of high-ranking officials such as Presidential Council member Louis Gerald Gilles and Police Chief Frantz Elbe underscores the significance of the visit and the unexpected nature of the health incident.

The nation remains on alert for further updates, with many expressing relief at the news of the Prime Minister’s stabilized condition. The outpouring of well-wishes and support from both domestic and international figures reflects the high regard in which Prime Minister Conille is held.

As Haiti navigates through these challenging times, the health and well-being of its leaders remain paramount. The Prime Minister’s swift recovery is crucial for the continuity of the nation's governance and the ongoing efforts to address pressing national issues.
